    N. Rankin - Today i was called at 13:33 by an actor posing as an agent from HMRC Details are as shown: "We are calling on behalf of HMRC as legal action will be brought upon you. Please press 1 to speak with one of ore agents" _ (words very similar to this quoted) (A North American: US/Canadian sounding accent via pre-recorded message) This certainly came across as the type of scams highlighted via organisations such as BBC TV Scam alerts, which consumers Scan Alerts etc. The message was designed to induce the recipient into a state of worry. anxiety -as the approach being of urgency and threat from a financial / legal perspective and therefore coercing the recipient into contacting and entering into further dealing with which certainly stood out ss being a fraud/scamming venture

Understanding Phone Scams

Scammers often make unsolicited calls, posing as representatives from trusted organizations such as your bank, HMRC or the police.

These calls can be either automated or made by a real person. The caller may ask for personal information, like your banking details, or urge you to transfer money urgently.

Protect Yourself from Scam Phone Calls

Your first step is to report the number here on WhosCalled. However many phone providers offer tools to help protect you from scam and nuisance calls. These may include:

Caller display - see who’s calling before you answer

Incoming call blocking - block unwanted numbers

Anonymous call rejection - block calls from hidden numbers

Its always best to just hang up on a caller if you suspect that something isn't quite right, check WhosCalled and see if others have reported the number first.
